Title:   Pyxis Lid: Polychrome Ware

Description:   The tip of the knob, fragments from the top and about half the rim and flange missing. Restored in plaster. High domed lid topped by a pear-shaped knob and finished below with a narrow horizontal rim and a vertical flange. Painted decoration: on the knob, narrow red and black bands; on the top, from the knob down, a black, a red, and a pink band; then a large bead and reel band in red; below, just above the rim, a black band and on the rim red blobs. Possible traces of red bands on the flange. All much worn.
Brown slightly micaceous clay, covered outside with a white slip.
Context:   Hollow in bedrock beside tile box.
