Title:   Red Figure Bell Krater
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Six joining fragments give part of the rim and wall of a bell krater, with a trace of one handle at the right of the fragment. Neatly moulded rim, with egg pattern on lightly offset band, just below. At bottom, maeander, broken by cross squares. Inside, reserved line just below lip and another lower down. Two figures, from a possible three, remain: at right, a standing woman, wearing chiton, himation and hairband, facing left, and holding an oinochoe in her left hand, a phiale in her extended right. Facing her is a standing youth, wreathed, and wearing travelling clothes (chlamys and hanging petasos); he holds a pair of spears in his left hand. Inscribed above, between the two: Κ Α Λ Η
No relief contour; dull work but careful. White for the boy's wreath, for the inscription, and for the wine which spills from jug and bowl.
Excellent glaze.
ADDENDA Much of wall added from sherds, with one handle. At left, a third figure, a man right, wrapped in a cloak and carrying a staff. Eggs around handles; bit of a draped figure on other side.
