Description: | Six joining fragments preserve part of rim and wall to base of figured zone. Angular wall, flat-topped slightly projecting rim. On the wall, most of a large sphinx, seated right. Incised blob rosettes in field; glaze bands above and below. On the top surface of the rim a glaze band at outer edge, the inner edge reserved, and three rows of small glaze (?) dots. Inside glazed. Added red on wing of sphinx, on rosettes, on rim (?) and for two bands on floor (?). Glaze red to brownish and somewhat worn. Considerable incision. Clay pink at core, grayish-buff at surfaces. | |
