Title:   Amphora Fragment: West Slope

Description:   Most of mouth, neck, handles and shoulder preserved. Neck slightly concave, with broad out-turned lip, flat on top. Scraped groove below lip, and another, deep and broad, at top of shoulder. Narrow rounding shoulder. Twisted handles from below lip to shoulder-curve, plastic masks at the lower attachments. Decoration in yellow and white: around neck, garland of leaves, with dot rosettes. On shoulder, between dot rosettes, dolphins above a conventionalized sea. Either side of the handles, a large cross tipped with leaves; petals in the angles. Traces of added white preserved on one of the masks, for fillet and mouth. Scraped groove around body just below shoulder-curve.
Black glaze, somewhat pitted.
Context:   Cistern, lower fill.
