| Description: | Two joining fragments preserve the open end; original surfaces remain at end and on both sides. A plain half-round shell of clay with a moulded lip at the open end. Pierced with two suspension holes near lip. The nature of the original surfaces along the bottom on both sides and the fact that the interior shows marks of wheel-turning indicate that this epinetron is only half of a tube of clay that was partly cut through (as in the case of well-tiles) vertically before baking. The closed end was probaby flat rather than rounded, as in the red figured epinetra? Coarse red clay; thin matte red wash on exterior. | |
