Description: | Neck, upper part of handles, and lip (except for chips) preserved. Large heavy amphora with rather short neck and very heavy arched handles, round in section. Projecting lip, flat on top, set off below by two deep grooves and sharp ridges. Shallow lengthwise grooves on the tops of the handles. Inscribed under one handle: <graphic> Gritty clay, red on the surfaces but with large grayish brown core. | |
