Title:   Red Figure Bell Krater Fragment

Description:   Approximately half of the body is preserved, including one handle; the base is missing. Wide flaring lip with moulded offset; deep slightly bell-shaped body; rope loop handle set at a slight angle to the body. Ovolo pattern on edge of rim; large crude laurel wreath on outside of rim.
On the body three figures, bounded by conventionalized palmettes under the handles and a base line composed of a double meander broken by small panels containing four red squares set in the shape of a cross. Three standing figures wrapped in himations which completely cover all but the extended hands. The central figure stands before a slender altar or stele above which a circular object is poised in mid-air. The outside figures are carrying oval objects.
ADDENDA Both handles and parts of sides added Nov. 1952 along with some non-joining fragments. P 37 appears to be from the front of this krater.
