Title:   Red Figure Oinochoe Fragment

Description:   Mended from three pieces; from the wall of a small oinochoe of Shape III. Youthful male figure, nude, seated left on a cloak which is flung over his outstretched left arm; on the palm of his left hand he holds a large wreathed jug; his right hand is extended towards the figures approaching him from the left: two women, the first with a tympanum, the second (bit of hair only) with a torch. Behind him, a youth with cloak over left arm and torch in left hand, moves right, looking back left. White for the women's flesh; added clay for their ornaments, and for the fillets of the two youths; also for berries of the wreath around the neck of the pot, of which a small part remains. The added clay ornaments once gilded: a fleck of gilding remains on the fillet of the seated figure.
Firm black glaze; relief contour for the profiles.
Context:   House H, room 10, Hellenistic fill.
