Title:   Moldmade Bowl

Description:   Mended from many fragments; most of the rim missing and part of the wall. Restored in plaster. Plain grooved mediallion; above it three rows of small leaves. In the figured zone, twice repeated, a figure standing in a boat in which another steers; to either side of the boat a long-tailed mermaid. Separating the two groups, a seahorse. In the field, birds above, fishes below. Upper zone: guilloche, then double spirals surmounted at wide intervals by a small floral motif. Scraped groove beneath the rim, which was dented in making.
Metallic black glaze.
Contamination of the story of the Sirens with that of Scylla and Carybdis?
