Title:   Oinochoe with Paint Decoration
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Intact except for two holes in wall and a few chips and cracks. High, slightly flaring, ring foot; the bottom of the pot inside the foot is rounded; trefoil mouth; rolled handle sloping from rim.
Decoration in white, pink and black. Around the neck and with ends hanging down to either side of the picture, a broad white band or fillet, with rounded ends. Between, a single nude male figure dancing or running left; he carries a staff in his right hand and something else, flute-case or simply fillets, falls over his right elbow; an oinochoe (black) hangs, by a fillet falling over it, from his left elbow; soft boots (white) with turned-up toes reach halfway up his legs; trace of a white fillet around the head. A spot of white might suggest an eye.
The figure is drawn in outline in a matte brown paint, the flesh surfaces filled in with bright pink. The figure is a caricature: lock of hair falling over forehead; protruding lips; big belly.
Handmade. Micaceous russet clay. Traces of a light buff surfacing.
