Title:   Black Figure Lekythos

Description:   Complete. General type as P 24316 (ΣΑ 2526): This is the characteristic general type for the large proportion of the lekythoi from this group. Bell mouth with variations in height and spread; lip usually reserved, occasionally glazed. Disk foot of varying thickness; below picture either one or two reserved lines. Added colors more or less well preserved. Only substantial variations are noted in the following descriptions.
Shoulder: strokes above lotus bud (three skipping).
Above scene: key right.
Scene: Herakles right grappling the lion. Athena is represented standing right, in front of the lion so that Herakles' right hand passes over her. On each side, man with himation, walking out and looking back; the one at the left holds spears. Bow, arrow and garments hanging in field.

Context:   Well beneath Stoa gutter.
