Title:   Red Figure Volute Krater Fragments

Description:   Several joining fragments give about one-quarter of the circumference of the rim, with small non-joining fragments of handle and shoulder.
Ivy band on volutes; simple maeander on projecting upper member of rim; below the figured scene framed horizontal palmettes. At center, between trees, a youth right, club in hand, subdues a bull; a companion, cloak over arm, staff in right hand, runs up from the left. At far left, a cloaked figure holding a staff sits on a box or stool, a Doric column behind him, next the handle space.
Purple for wreaths and leaves; also in grooves on handle and at edge of rim. Relief contour. Hair lines incised.
ADDENDA It belongs to the same krater as P 28759.
