Section Number:   Α 777
Title:   Red Figure Bell Krater Fragments
Category:   Pottery
Description:   a) Mended from two pieces, shows a nude male torso (satyr) facing left, holding double flutes to his lips. Preserved from beard to thighs.
b) From the lower edge of the panel, with a foot right and beneath a maeander border broken by a cross square with a small dotted square in each of the corner squares.
c) A bit of tail.
d) Mended from three pieces, from the lower left corner of the panel. Border similar to that on b) but narrower. Above, a curving line, reserved.
Relief contours throughout. Fine relief lines on the tail. The beard dull black to brown. Brown for the inner drawing, including the collarbone line.
Black glaze inside.
It seems improbable that both b) and c) belong to the same vase, though the resemblance in fabric and style is extremely close. The maeander border on d) is considerably narrower than that on b). It is tempting to suppose that one is from the front, the other from the back of the vase.
