Title:   Red Figure Cup Fragment: Type C
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Three-quarters of the rim missing; a large part of the cup and one handle and a third of the base restored in plaster. The preserved parts mended from many pieces.
Medallion depicts youth crouching right. Inner corner of his eye damaged; seems to have been full or nearly full face. In the field to the right, part of a round object. Reserved: irregular medallion frame, handle-spaces and inside of handles, outer edge of base and resting surface, inside of stem. Two scraped grooves around base of stem.
Sketchy work. The heavy relief contours seldom coincide with the reserved picture. Apparently in filling in the background of this cup no reserving stripe was used and the result affords a good indication of the need for this step in the process. Inner drawing in the same heavy black lines. It can be seen that the hairline was intended to be reserved, but the black has run over most of it.
