Description: | Over half preserved; mended from several pieces. Medallion: small rosette surrounded by two rows of small pointed leaves and scraped groove with miltos; from this spring a row of small pointed leaves and two rows of large fronds. Middle zone: Hermes leading a quadriga bearing two figures (Rape of Persephone) towards a stele with a pediment inscribed ευσεβων (<graphic>); following the chariot one or two figures missing, then an armed Athena, female with two torches (Hecate?) and Artemis with bow drawn and finally, a figure playing the double flute, surrounded by reeds. Rim pattern: simplified guilloche pattern, double spirals, palmettes alternating with pairs of dolphins. Orange clay. Slightly metallic black glaze. Very similar to P 28544 and P 28546, though rim pattern differs, as does the order of the figures in the middle zone. | |
