Title:   Red Figure Lekanis Lid Fragment
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Fragment preserves part of outer decorative band, which appears to have been an animal frieze. Left side hind part of lion proceeding left, his feet toward the rim. At right vestiges of some other creature, winged(?), perhaps a Sphinx or a Siren facing right; over their backs, narrow reserved band. Outer edge, downturned rim decorated with a short tongue pattern. Glazed inside.
Attic clay. Rather thin glaze. A few relief lines for interior drawing. Contour lines show distinctly, suggesting background did not receive its final coat.
