Title:   Red Figure Cup Fragment: Type B

Description:   Interior: youthful warrior, right. The boy's helmet has a crest attached at the top. He carries both spear and shield in his left arm and hand; his right is stretched before him. Relief contours; the eye in profile, with no eyelid stroke. Drawing in very pale dilute glaze. The reserved surfaces covered with red wash. On the arm strap, just below the boy's arm, is a small hole, as if from one end of a pair of compasses. (It is not, however at the exact middle of the cup.) The boy's hair in black to dark brown.
Exterior: Combat scene. Above a broken maeander, interspersed with cross squares, the bent knee and outstretched, greaved leg of a fallen figure. Behind this figure, one leg and foot of his opponent; to the left, at the edge of the fragment, the toes of another foot.
Context:   Late Roman fill.
