Title:   Black Figure Pinax Fragment

Description:   Top and right edge preserved, bordered with band of dull purplish-brown glaze. Suspension hole just inside this band at upper right hand corner. Within, at right, Hermes, facing left, broken at the hips. He wears a pointed cap, and carries in his left hand the caduceus; in the right he extends some object toward a woman who faces him. Her head and breast alone preserved at edge of fragment with her arm extended toward the figure of Hermes, holding out to him an object, perhaps a wreath.
Attic clay, orange surface; added purple for details of clothing and hair, white for face and arm of woman. Inner outlines indicated by incision, very crude and halting.
