Title:   Black Figure Skyphos

Description:   Many sherds joined from several baskets to form much of wall of skyphos, including very small section of rim. Entire bottom missing except for single non-joining fragment from edge of base. Nine very small non-joining sherds.
Heavy torus foot with reserved resting surface; fillet between foot and body. Traces of tongue pattern in alternating black and added red on lower wall, with three to four bands above, as baseline for figures. Scene of Dionysiac revelry, with dancers, musicians, drinkers, and Dionysis himself, and including the mixing of wine with water; fronds of ivy wind through the scene. Out-turned rim, with pattern of ivy leaves between two black lines on exterior. Added red, and traces of added white. Heron Class skyphos, by Theseus Painter, ca. 500 BC.
