Title:   Red Figure Lekanis Lid
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Mended from many fragments; a few missing from rim and top; the knob chipped. Inside, firm black glaze, rather dull; around the down-turned edge, an egg and dot pattern, similar to the one on the top of the knob.
Two pairs of women's heads, separated by spirals, ("conventionalized plants") decorate the top. The outlines of the eggs, the women's eyes, ears, and bands on their coifs are drawn with relief lines. No relief contours. Mouth dots. Considerable remains of a heavy pink wash.
Common work of the second/third half of the fourth century. Ours seems no later than any of the comparable pieces from Olynthus.
