Title:   Panathenaic Amphora Fragment with Graffito

Description:   Neck and rim of large Panathenaic amphora. Two large vertical handles springing from ridge round neck, broken away.
Wide flaring rim; coarse black figure decoration. Head of Athena, in crested helmet. Details of helmet and crest incised.
Graffito scratched in before glazing: <graphic>
Very heavy fabric; fine pinkish-buff clay; thin black glaze, much worn; accessory white on face; purplish-red round edge of rim and on both sides of neck ridge.
Hellenistic type.
