Title:   Pyxis with Lid

Description:   The pyxis is intact except for chips; the lid mended from several pieces.
a) Round-bodied pyxis with flat bottom and convex side wall flanged inside to receive the lid. Flange and lid have double holes at opposite sides for tying on the lid. On side, black band at bottom. The wide band between three black stripes above and below is divided by vertical zigzags between vertical lines, in one place also horizontal zigzags. In metopes: alternating, swastikas and four-petalled flowers, all hatched, with dot rosettes in field. At the end, two swastikas come together. Bottom, inside, three black rings, diagonally hatched petals with hatched triangles between their ends; in center, eight-spoked wheel surrounded by rings.
b) Lid: flat round lid with heavy handle ending in a spiked knob. At outer edge, short parallel strokes; then three bands, row of dots, three bands, wave pattern, and five bands. On lower handle, reserved bands; on knob, linked dotted circles; on spike, bands, rosette on its lip.
Slipped. Glaze black to reddish. Inside unglazed.
