Title:   Plate Fragment with Paint Decoration

Description:   Rather less than half preserved. Broad flat bottom, flaring walls, small horizontal rim. Decoration in white paint on floor and rim. In the center of the floor an elaborate palmette surrounded by five wheel run grooves, and a circle of dots; springing from these grooves, a circle of large elongated lotus flowers, these in turn surrounded by dots and grooves. On the rim, a row of large dots.
Pinkish-buff clay, yellow at the surface. Thin pruple red glaze wash, worn.
Late Roman D Ware.
Context:   Late Roman house, red earth.
