Title:   Red Figure Cup Fragment with Graffito

Description:   Joins P 8890. Mended from two pieces; fragment from floor of cup with spring of stem preserved beneath.
Interior: sealing wax red outside the medallion. Within, the legs, from above the knees, of two youths, standing facing each other. On either side, the hanging end of an himation. Graffito: <graphic>
Exterior: sealing wax red below the figured zone. Palaestra scene? Left to right: the feet of a figure with a knotted staff, facing left; the feet of a figure running right, the weight on the ball of the right foot, the left foot stretched out, about to touch the ground. Between the feet of this figure (seen behind him?) the legs of a claw-footed stool. Behind his left foot, a pair of staves(?). At right, elaborate handle ornament.
Fine relief contours throughout. Careful inner drawing all in brown glaze. The red much peeled inside.
