Title:   Red Figure Bell Krater
Category:   Pottery
Description:   Two non-joining fragments from a red figured krater. Black inside with reserved band.
a) A head left, part of a head at the right, and a hand holding a torch?
b) Three heads and parts of torsos. A bit of out-turned rim above with traces of leaf pattern. The surface heavily incrusted with iron corrosion.
Relief contours extremely coarse, for the profiles, and much of the other drawing. White for leaves(?) rising from fillets, and for the flame of the torch.
Many additional fragments found later and the whole made up in plaster. None of the lip or of the foot remains and the foot as restored is probably a trifle too high.
A: Torch racers. Three youths to the left and two to the right of a goal post. Parts of the heads of all are preserved, and much of the bodies, also the torch of the figure at the extreme right. All are nude, and wear fillets from which project large white leaves. Extremely coarse relief contour for the heads and parts of the upper bodies.
B: Three cloaked figures; parts of the lower wall only.
Context:   'Cistern'. Late 5th.-4th. c. context.
