Title:   Amphora Fragment: West Slope

Description:   Upper part of amphora only preserved; about half of the rim missing, much of the shoulder and both handles. Shoulder decorated with alternate diminishing squares and checkerboards, all deeply incised. Added white on the checkerboard and for five dots on a St. Andrew's cross at the center of the squares. On the neck, on each side an elaborate jewelled garland, with rosettes above. Strokes beneath rim. Edges of ribbons incised; rosettes, etc., in white colored clay paint. Miltos grooves at top and bottom of shoulder; another below lip, and one on upper face of lip.
Dull black glaze inside and out, much peeled.
Neck and shoulder of very similar amphora stored in BB 152; there crosshatchings replace checkerboard on shoulder, and incision is used only for garlands on neck; red glaze.
