Title:   Red Figure Pyxis Lid Fragments

Description:   Two fragments, one preserving about one-quarter of the lid, the other part of the edge only. Knob broken away. Edge chipped. Lid slightly convex on top, with overhanging edge set at an acute angle to the top. Decoration on the vertical face of the edge: maeander broken by cross-squares. On the top: large slanting palmettes with enclosing tendrils. Around the knob: tongues. Underneath: the edge reserved; inside glazed, then reserved with two glaze rings. Relief contours for the palmette pattern. Careful work.
Context:   Pit with marble chips.
