Title:   Portrait Bust of Antonius Pius

Description:   Mended from two pieces. Complete except for chips and bottom of base. Tip of nose chipped.
Portrait of bearded emperor, Antonius Pius, head turned to his left. Hair done in incised waves behind, incised drilled waves and curls in front. Furrowed brow, incised eyebrows, partially drilled pupils, wrinkles at corners of eyes. Large nose. Dressed in heavy cloak or mantle, fringed right shoulder. Hollow behind. Upper part of base decorated with scrolls on side. Round tenon for fastening into lower part of base, broken away.
White, very large crystalline marble.
