Title:   Statuette of Aphrodite
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   Broken into two pieces, now joined. Missing: head, left arm except for the tip of the hand, fragment of left knee below the joining point, small chips from upper torus of base.
The woman's weight is on her right leg, so that her body has a pronounced curve to the right. The upper part of her body is nude. She holds her drapery (with her right hand) so arranged that the rolled fold below her thighs falls between her knees straight to the ground. Four vertical locks of hair lie on the back of her neck. At her right a dolphin posed on its head served as a strut. It is cut all of a piece with her drapery. A strut still remains as well below the right elbow of the Aphrodite. The base is approximately Ionic: the torus at the top projects too far for perfect proportion.
Pentelic marble.
