Title:   Portrait Head of Male Figure
Category:   Sculpture
Description:   Broken at the middle of the neck. The end of the nose and part of the chin are missing. Edges of the eyebrows and ears chipped.
The figure wears a laurel crown; the top of the head within it has a smooth finish; probably the hair was painted. The back of the neck from ear to ear, and the back part of the crown, have not the polished finish of the rest of the face and neck; even so this surface at the back is only slightly rough. The pupils of the eyes are marked by shallow borings.
The head is clearly that of at least a middle-aged man. It gives the appearance of being an excellent portrait; the wrinkles on the forehead, deep frown, shaggy eyebrows, and lines from the nose and the corner of the mouth are clearly marked. The lips are rather thin and tight set. Below the chin the cords in the front of the neck are shown.
Pentelic marble.
