Title:   Unguentarium Fragment: Stamped

Description:   Part of neck and shoulder missing, restored in plaster; mouth complete, pinched to a spout. Shape as SS 4624 (Π 599).
Clay is dark grey but for a faint red core; traces of slip and dark wash.
Near the bottom, a deep circular stamp; cf. SS 4628.

Notes:   The objects SS 4624-SS 4644 (Π 599-Π 619) were found all close together in a very late Roman fill. With them was coin no. 1 of 5 June 1935; coins nos. 2 and 3 of the same date are probably also valid for this filling (notebook, p. 108).
Fragments of six similar vases, with illgible stamps as well as a number of fragments of necks, mouths, walls and base, found with these, are preserved in the sherd storage.
Context:   Very late Roman fill, undisturbed.
