Notes: | May 3 (p. 67-68) At approx. +83.424 we struck a strosis of red earth and changed to Basket #1. [Finds stamp.] The fill was apparently Roman or Hellenistic, disturbed by construction of the bothros. We found bits of plaster with red paint and also Wall #19, the return of Wall #18, running west from its western face. North of the wall we struck a strosis of hard red earth cut by a wall trench. Between this trench and Wall #19 we found a clay floor at +83.294 and finished our excavation of the bothros at this point. [Blue pen sketch of bothros with indication of Walls #18 and #19, red earth strosis and clay floor. Caption: Cross-section of bothros at bottom (diameter approx. 1.90 m).] | |
