To the south, in area ΟΕ-ΟΗ/98-100, where the fill is soft and contains ash, we began digging with Basket #1. [Finds stamp,]
2 coins were found in this fill. [AG-the wording suggests that this context is below the ashy layer that covers the area, but it is not clear if they are still removing it here or if this is a second fill.]
We uncovered Wall #24, which had first been discovered on May 4 in fill #1. Wall #24 runs E-W at ΟΣΤ-ΟΓ/99-97. Its western end extends into Room #8 and appears in fill #2 of May 3. On the eastern end, its north face was uncovered in fill #1 of May 5 and its south face in fill #1 of May 6. Wall #24 appears contemporary with Wall #20, to which it runs perpendicular, and earlier than Wall #17, whose upper courses are built over it.
Area ΟΕ-ΟΗ/98-100, between Walls #15 and #20 and south of Wall #24, will be called Room #9. Area ΟΖ-ΟΗ/98-95, north of Wall #24, will be called Room #10. In Room #9 we struck a strosis of packed dirt at +85.389, which is cut through by Walls #20 and #24. This strosis appears to continue in Room #10 up to the northern end, area 93-94/ΟΖ-ΟΗ; Here at a level of +85.584 the strosis appears to contain more rocks, with possibly some clay, and extends to the west face of Wall #13 with no sign of a trench; This may belong to strosis #15.
May 6 (p. 77)
In Room #9, in the fill of Basket #1, we discovered Wall #25, running E-W along the north face of Wall #14 at ΟΖ-ΟΕ/100-98.
