Stratum:   Trench S VI, south extension
Notes:   S VI 1.45-1.65 or 1.70. Thru a stratum of extremely black earth = carbonized matter. There is also some wood ash. Bones, quite a number of sherds chiefly Minyan. Some decorated with incised patterns. A little Mattmalerei - one looks Melian has double circle with St. Andrew’s cross in it.
At 1.65 in east side (1.70 in W) we strike a floor of reddish clay. Above this floor in the burnt stratum are a good many irregular lumps of clay
[p. 243]
some partly baked. These may be remains of bricks fallen from walls or chunks of clay put into hearth to hold up cooking pots etc.
The burnt stratum goes on to the south beneath the wall mentioned on pp. 240-241. Wace thinks it may be the deposit from a hearth. We have found no hearth pavement for it save that ment. on pp. 240-241 but that may be too high.
[This pottery below is from both B 88 and B 105]
