Stratum:   R II, Altar
Notes:   Around the altar we have been clearing away leaving a small scarp with stratification to east. Some good Mycenaean pottery in R II 0.40-0.65 in this region. Also at 0.60 a fine Urfirnis jug in many fragments. We have a large part of it except bottom.
Tzonou-Herbst= comment for altar above in same paragraph as following R II, so altar mentioned has to be the one in R.
[p. 229]
Stratification around altar.
Ca. 0.15 of brownish earth LM III frags.
Ca. 0.30 ashes etc. a fair no. of bones some good Myc pots found here
Ca. 0.10 hard packed earth floor brown in color.
Ca. 0.10 ashes again and bones.
The case for the altar is now fairly good. We have removed two loose stones above it - resting on earth only and have cut around. This shows that the altar is circular in shape. It is almost in axis of the stone threshold.
