Stratum:   R, NE of altar
Notes:   We have also dug NE of the altar getting some good Mycenaean sherds in ash layer ca. 0.50-0.60 deep.
The ash stratum S of altar does not go beyond a rather poor wall (ca. 0.50 S. of altar) which runs E and W and is built near the surface.
Eastward the ash stratum goes a good many meters.
[James-Nakassis: Blegen found an ash layer ca. 0.55-0.65 m below the surface in B62, and this is presumably the same layer. The altar is probably located about 40 cm below the surface, since it seems to have been exposed before B62, as the description of B62 presupposes its existence. Thus, this basket is probably equal to B62 , which was digging only around the altar; this basket then digs the same levels but for the entire south extension of trench R. This is a very hypothetical reconstruction, as it is very unclear where Blegen is excavating in his initial R trenches; he has a number of trenches identified as R II, for example.]
