Stratum:   Robbing trench bisecting north spur of wall 220. Soil is dark red verging on brown, 5-10% gravel and pebbles. Inclusions of mudbrick, charcoal, plaster, mortar.
Notes:   B35 is the removal of E-W RT . The soil is dark red verging on brown with a few pieces of gravel. B35 is our first basket after cleaning and it dug with a small pick. Pieces of painted fresco come up, lying painted-side down in the stratum. A large fragment with red and black paint is exposed vertically.
The soil includes large pieces of charcoal (2.5 cm round). Also, harder red clay that appears to be fragments of mud-brick as well as chunks of mortar, possilby from the backing of the painted plaster.
Included in the pottery is the handle of a large amphora joining to a complete neck and rim. Also, the tip of an animal horn, and a small triangular piece of bronze.
The large piece (c. 20-25 cm) of fresco is removed separately by the conservator. Work continues in the W half of the RT while the fresco is removed, and we continue to excavate the same reddish-brown soil with a few bits of gravel, but there is a notable lack of mud brick.
Removal of B35 continues to the west, where the continuation of wall 220 to the north is uncovered.
After c. 30 cm, we bottom out on very hard-packed grayish-brown soil containing what appear to be a large number of very small cobbles.
From the area of the fresco were also found a small fragment of marble and another of pebble mosaic.
