Stratum:   Fill of Well 2002-2. Dark red sandy clay, 1% pebbles, 1-2% angular cobbles and rare boulders; compact
Notes:   B86 is the soil at the top of well 2002-2 to the NW of the large fragment of sarcophagus lid. It was designated a distinct basket because the soil was more compact than B85 (to the east of the sarcophagus lid) and a slightly different color. The soil of this basket is dark red sandy clay with 1% pebbles, subrounded and angular, and rare tabular boulders, and 1% angular cobbles. Several rooftiles and and an architectural piece of marble were found and kept with the pottery. The basket was changed due to a change in soil, namely the end of the more compact clay. See p. 147 for top plan. We are still wet sieving 10% and dry sieving 90% of the soil.
There was one zembil of roof tiles. An interesting find was a fragment of painted wall plaster. The director thinks that the marble architectural piece is a contamination from the marble floor of the domus.
