Stratum:   Circular debris deposit
Notes:   The matrix of this basket is reddish brown sandy silt with numerous inclusions of large rooftile fragments. B39 is the removal of a roughly circular deposit of roof tiles and bone. It was determined throught scraping that this deposit is cut into the bottom layer of B37 and lies on top of the gutter at its N end. The basket contained large fragments of roof tile ca 0.3 m long, a lower jaw of possibly a cow or horse and other animal bones. Also in the deposit which extended into the gutter at the N end were fragments of cement that are very similar to the lining of the gutter. Two zembils of earth from this basket were dry sieved. Also it is believed that the final segment of the gutter was uncovered as the final segment of cement that forms the wall was uncovered (421.9 E/973.16N). The basket ended when the soil changed at the bottom of the pit with more pebbles in it. However this area is on the same level with the cement lined bottom of the S end of the gutter, thus allowing for further tracing of the cement lining to the NW, if it is preserved.
