Stratum:   Deposit under clay floor/foundation trench W282
Notes:   The matrix of this basket is greyey brown clayey silt with 20% cobbles. B11 is the removal of the deposit on which the clay floor was sitting. The matrix is the same throughout, basically a greyey brown compact clayey silt with flecks of carbon. The cobbles seem to be concentrated in the E portion of the deposit. The deposit touches the E side of W282 and the S face of W265. The deposit came down to a layer of reddish pebbly soil that seems to be a continuation of a deposit revealed in B9. The deposit produced increased amounts of pottery compared to the rest of the area to its E, as well as some fragments of mudbrick. The reddish pebbly layer slopes down toward W 282 and as the deposit of B11 was removed along the slope of the reddish layer, it began to look like a foundation trench. Eventually it was decided that the deposit of B11 clearly continued under the third block from the S of W282. The hypothesis is that B11 was deposited as backfill in the foundation trench of W282 and then spread eastward.
