Corinth Basket: NB981 B2 P12
Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   NB981 B2 P12
Area:   Panaghia north
Category:   Basket/zembil
Notebook:   981
Context:   2
Page:   12
Date:   2006/05/24
Stratum:   Exploratory pass
Notes:   The matrix of this basket is medium brown with some reddish brown sandy silt, weakly cemented with 10% pebbles. B 2 is an exploratory pass to the S of the newly found possible extension of W 265. The objective is to investigate if the bottom layers of NB 978 B87 and B 83 are still differentiated along the N-S axis of the three small boulders that were removed in NB 978 B 83, or whether we are dealing with a unified layer at this point. As we proceed it is evident that both bottom layers of NB 978 B 87 and B 83 have basically the same matrix and thus this pass of B 2 covers the entire area. After the first pass, a clay floor is detected on approximately the W half of the basket. In the E half there seems to be a concentration of brown reddish sandy silt in the center, turning more black to the S and more brown orange to the N. The differentiation between the clay floor and the E half seems to be along the same axis of the three small boulders that were removed in NB 978 B 83. To the S and within a distance of ca. 0.25 m from the N wall of the villa pool the soil seems to be more compact, sandier and with 10-15% pebble and medium cobble inclusions.
