Type:   Basket
Name:   NB982 B25 P54
Area:   Panaghia north
Category:   Basket/zembil

Context:   25

Date:   2006/06/07
Stratum:   Fill. Light reddish brown lightly compacted silty sand with 10% tiles and small cobbles.
Notes:   We are digging the whole area south of N 977 for this basket except for the scarp on the north side where bones were found. The soil is very similar to baskets 21 and 23.
There is a large stone in the northwest corner of the area. Some pieces of painted wall paster emerged in N976,05 - 976,25 E 409 - 409,70 at the south side of the stone.
8-June-06: We continued work over the area. With B24 complete to the N we were sure there was no articulated grave on the N balk at N977, so we had the workmen take out the column of earth left at E411-413/N967.70-977.0 to straighten out the scarp (no finds saved). In the scarp it appears that B24 was over a pit that continues down further, but we will leave it since we are not digging north of N977.
We completed 2 big pick passes over the whole area. In the west, a tile and stone wall on the line of wall 294 from the south appeared. We carefully cleaned off the top of the wall, confirming there was no cut along the edges to the west and probably ont to the east. To the west side of the wlal is a copmact light brown fill without many stones, some clay, mortar and charcoal, and we are leaving this fill because we have too little space between the wall and the west scarp.
To the east of the continuation of wall 294 we encountered some soil with significantly more inclusions (cobbles, tiles?). It does not appear to continue to the east, so we opened B 26 for this patch.
Most of the wall plaster from this basket came from the NW corner, in the same area noted above. There was no noticeable change in the fill around here, besides the plaster fragments.
