| Notes: | This is another pass through dumped fill in the basin. It's a little harder, and the fill has more small cobbles than before, also some more red mud-bricks. We are sieving. We removed two large stones embedded in this fil just SW of what is turning out to be a mortar-cemented very steep staircase going down S from the N wall of the basin. It is plasteerd together with the threshhold or chute over the E retaining wall of the basin. We are close to the end of the excavation session here, with the basket incomplete, and the staircase continuing down with 3 steps already visible. The angle of the steps suggests a fairly deep basin. 27-06-06. This morning digging proceeded below the stone ladder exposing another block upon which the stone ladders rests. The floor apppears to slope down from the east side of the basin toward the west. Soil and finds appear relatively uniform. | |
