Context:   15

Date:   2006/06/08
Stratum:   Fill with small cobbles
Notes:   The matrix of this basket is reddish brown sandy silt, compact, with 15% pebble and cobble inclusions. B15 is the exploration of a cobbly layer on the W and N periphery of the pit (B's 4, 5, 6, 7, 8). After two passes, to the W of the pit we came across a clayey layer that looked like a floor. To the N of the pit what appears to be a block covered in white clay was uncovered. As digging around it proceeded it became clear that it is actually a mass of clay shaped in roughly like a rectangular block. It is decided to stop this basket here and remove in another basket what looks like a remainder of the fill of the pit (B's 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) that became visible when the clay floor was reached.
