Stratum:   Fill E of W290 and foundation trench dug in B46 and B47. Medium brownish brown soil sandy clay with 30% pebbles, 20% cobbles, compact.
Notes:   B49 is a return to our initial strip of soil, east of B46 and 7 (the foundation trench of W290). This fill sits just above the intersecting marl ashlar that is perendicular to W290. We have better exposed the wall running to the east of W290, which James has allegedly already drawn and states that it was known last season.
We have found several large chunks of mudbrick in this layer.
We continue down into this layer because we see no soil changes but it is possible that we could have come upon the foundation trench of wall to the east of W 290 although it is uncertain. We will return to the patch in W 287 in order to see if we have the extent of a robbing trench there. See top plan pg. 81.
