| Description: | The soil color is dark reddish black. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt. | |
| Notes: | -117 is harder and more reddish than 111, 109, and 110 with fewer larger stone and tile inclusions. -Area of darker, harder, more compact reddish soil that is not floor surface, revealed in context 111, excavated. This was done in an attempt to reveal even more reddish and compact floor surface level we hoped to find underneath. -Excavation of context 117 did in fact reveal what looks like more surface level throughout the center of the trench. This is harder, reddish and more uniform, with some larger pottery sherds embedded in the matrix. This is bordered by a section of more stoney soil with lots of tile inclusions, on the E. side of the trench. This is in turn bordered by a strip of exposed surface on the E. edge of the trench, next to Wall 50 -Also defined in this context was a semicircular patch of softer earth in the northern edge of the trench, along the central portion of wall 49 in this room. This does not seem to be preserved floor level, but is likely a pit or a patch of fill or debris. Finds: glass, bones | |
