Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field, context 121
Area:   New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field
Title:   N. Sect. Rm 8-Fill of pit S. of wall 49 (cxt 123)
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1111
Context:   121
Date:   2016/06/14
Stratum:   20% tile; 20% stone: 10% coarse pebbles, 10% cobbles; 10% pottery
Description:   The soil color is dark brownish black. The soil compaction is soft. The soil is moderately sorted. It is silt.
Notes:   -121 is siltier and looser than 119.
-During excavation of debris deposit in soft, silty portion revealed under context 119, it became evident that we had a possible pit. This is filled with cobbles, tiles, and some larger pieces of pottery (including several large pithos sherds). Because it is likely a pit, we sieved the context.
-Cut of pit: context 123
-At bottom of context two features were revealed:
1) Possible earlier floor surface, which seems to be similar elevation to earlier surface revealed in Room 5 to the E.; this is revealed in the SW corner of the context.
2) Stone built feature in the E. half of the context, backwards-L shaped. This is possibly a bin, hearth, or continuation of the drain revealed in Room 1 (approximately same orientation), and is at a lower level than the possible earlier floor surface. Further excavation needed to determine the nature of this structure.
-Rest of bottom of pit is soft, rocky, reddish soil, likely not a surface level.
