Collection:   Corinth
Type:   Basket
Name:   New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field, context 27
Area:   New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field
Title:   Room 2 - stone and tile deposit
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1111
Context:   27
Date:   2016/06/01
Stratum:   45% tile; 20% stone: 10% rounded and sub-rounded spherical cobbles; 5% sub-rounded spherical coarse pebbles5% sub-rounded spherical and tabular medium pebbles; 10% pottery.
Description:   The soil color is dark reddish black. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   - 27 is mostly harder than 25 and 21 with more tiles and cobbles.
- Glass and bone collected
- Pass consists of excavation and removal of larger stones and tiles (possible destruction debris) in attempt to reveal any more preserved floor surface on baulk
- Well-preserved floor surface located to E. of context in small strip along edge of baulk; this is more compact and hard with fewer cobble and tile inclusions
- Context 27 contains larger amount of tiles and cobbles than previously encountered in trench.
- Small amount of carbon throughout soil
- Softer soil encountered in center of baulk.
- Harder soil in center and north of baulk and softer as we go south
- Context 25 continues westwards to E. face of wall 20 and eastwards to W. edge of strip of well-preserved floor surface.
- Level underneath to S. denser/harder packed and appears more well-sorted, with fewer tile and cobble inclusions; this is possibly a continuation of the floor surface underneath destruction level. This is different from the level underneath to the N., which is slightly more brownish but also compact and without tiles and stones underneath.
- Throughout most of context, tiles and stones sitting directly on top of more compact layer (possible surface) and are easily removed.
- After pass completed, floor level now seems to be exposed throughout entirety of baulk except 5m wide rectangle on S. end next to wall 6; this is more yellowish/black and less red.
- Along W. edge of this patch, earth is much softer
- Floor level seems to slope down E-W throughout baulk.
