Lambraki Field, context 32 | Area: | | New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field | Title: | | Room 1- Dumped Fill East of Structure 12 | Category: | | Deposit | Notebook: | | 1111 | Context: | | 32 | Date: | | 2016/06/02 | Stratum: | | We estimate 5% small, unworked rocks, no larger than 0.20 x 0.21 x 0.12 meters in size. Higher concentrations of rocks appeared at lower levels. Less than one pail of pottery was collected. | Description: | | Top slope of the context is uneven. The soil color is dark greyish yellow. The soil compaction is firm. The soil is poorly sorted. It is clayey silt. | Notes: | | We opened context 32 on 2/6/16 after determining that context 29 represnted early modern agricultural material. At Director Sanders' suggestion, we dug to the east of the cistern (structure 12) in the NE corner of room 1 in attempt to identify surface levels and features associated with the construction of the cistern and/or the gully or pipeline pointed out by Thanasis. This pipeline runs north-south in line with wall 18. Soil compaction varied, and was generally hard to the west, close to the cistern, and soft to the east. The concentration of medium-sized (c. 0.20 meters in diameter) rocks increased at lower elevations, and we closed context 32 when we came down on a concentration of rocks similar to that on the other (west) side of the cistern. We left a baulk on the west side of 32, imposing an artificial boundary, since the material of the baulk is the same as that of context 32. | Context Pottery: | | Fineware. slipped plain glazed (1100-1300), cup. 1 handle.
