Type:   Basket
Name:   New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field, context 40
Area:   New Apotheke: D. Kokolopoulos and E. Lambraki Field
Title:   Debris Layer North of Wall 18
Category:   Deposit
Notebook:   1111
Context:   40
Date:   2016/06/02
Stratum:   We estimate 10% small rocks and 5% tiles. Less than half a pail of pottery.
Description:   Top slope of the context is level. The soil color is dark reddish brown. The soil compaction is hard. The soil is moderately sorted. It is clayey silt.
Notes:   After closing context 32, we initially opened context 40 to clear the area north of wall 18. After excavating 40 as far east as the line formed by the eastern edge of wall 18, we determined that the soil east of that line to -302.07 E was a part of the same deposit. The soil was soft further east and hard to the west, closer to a concentration of stones running to the north of wall 18. East of the drain (structure 45), we came to a layer of soil that was cut into by the drain, and must therefore be earlier. We therefore closed context 40 and began excavating the fill from the drain (44).
6.6.16 TB: The concentration of stones appears to be collapse from a structure running north-south over the drain-- possibly a continuation of Wall 18 whose stones fell to the west side.
